Ch 6...
This chapter is about reading rhetorically and to be honest I only do this most of the time. I have come to the realization that reading has been ruined for me by text books. I am required to read so many of them that casual reading is just dull and bothersome to me. So as far as rhetorically reading something, it is rare. I have never done annotations in my readings. This will be the first class I have done so and it will be a learning experience for me. I have, however, summarized and paraphrased my writing and readings.
Ch 7...
This chapter was just basically how to effectively write a research paper with well thought out responses to your sources. It tells you how to keep track of your sources and how to add your own valid comments to fill the paper with information that not only makes it interesting but true.
I totally agree with you when you say textbooks have ruined reading for you. I completely agree and I cant possibly find reading the least bit exciting anymore. I also never read rhetorically anymore unless I am in desperate need to understand the material. Otherwise I just skim and look for the main points. I have also never been required to do annotations on my reading, and I am not excited about doing it for this class.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was a frustrating read. I kindof felt like the text was rambling on and on. I do feel like if you have something that you are able to read and reflect exactly what you are reading then it will benefit the research opportunity. It would have possibly been nice if i were able to read this rhetorically then i would have grasped the concepts more, but i couldnt
ReplyDeleteReading textbooks can very easily ruin reading. I completely agree that I used to read a lot more before all this textbook stuff in college. Reading is still a big hobby of mine but I have noticed that I do not do it near enough of the amount in High School. Even in High School assigned reading are from normal books not necessarily textbooks. I have yet to discover a class on campus that asks us to read from novels. I think that would be more beneficial half the time compared to that of textbooks. I did like chapter six a lot more than chapter seven for some reason. I like the little sidenotes and yellow parts of the pages. They usually have something interesting and beneficial to read. Writing annotated bibs are a first for me as well. My 103 class did not have us do one and I have never done them in high school so I am kind of nervous to do this one. I am hoping I can figure out how to do it correctly and get everything done.
