First Blog

For my first reading I read "Changing as a Writer". This article reminded me as somewhat of a free writing form. She seemed to ramble on about some of the same things a lot of the time. I did like how she compared her writing to math, however. I could relate to her in the fact that I feel like I also have a harder time expressing my feelings and emotions on paper. I can better just put down the facts rather than expressiveness and emotion.

The "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" set of readings really cracked me up. I didn't read all of them but of the ones I did they really were funny. My sister also got to reading them and liked them as well.

My last reading was "The Writing" and I thought it was long and a bit dry. But it was the example of a comp writing. I think I will be able to do pretty well with a comp writing. I don't enjoy writing but I have done well with all the writings that I have had to write for school. Research is more of my strong point more so than personal narratives.

The short film/lecture that we had to watch I agree with him in that technology has changed dramatically over the past 100yrs or so. I think that people today wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they didn't have the internet, twitter, facebook, or sites like this for example.

  1. Elizabeth, you raise some interesting points about technology and individual relationships to technology, and it would be interesting to see you take those thoughts further. You agreed with Shirky, for example, that technology has changed dramatically; how might those changes (particularly in social media) pertain to how people write and conceive of writing?

You mentioned that you prefer research to narrative writing; this is an interesting insight and one that you could pursue further in light of the comp tales we read. How does narrative writing differ from research? What kinds of research writing are done with narratives?

Overall this is a great start, and I would love to see you comparing readings to each other - how might the readings on twitter posted on blackboard inform what you think about twitterature?

  2. I agree with you about the film clip, the way we hear about things or even just talk to our friends has changed over the years just since we were born. I as well have a hard time putting down my feelings in a paper, but I don't not like research papers though. I enjoyed reading the "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" too, but after a while they seemed repeitive to me for some reason.

  3. Elizabeth...We have really similar views on the "Changing as a writer" post. She did ramble on alot of the time during her post, but she did have really good and interesting things to say. This post really opened my eyes to a lot of things. People that appear to love writing could feel very different about it than we originally thought.

Technology really rules our world today. You mentioned that people wouldnt know what to do with themselves without their internet, cell phones, facebooks, and twitter. I completely agree with that. We have become very dependent on technologies so much that we feel lost without them. Some people dont even know how to walk without their cars. We dont know people numbers by hear because they only pop up as names on our phones. The world is crazy.

These are some really insiteful posts. Good Job.
